Just got a 2nd hand 400D, and the sensor is dusty.

Got some E2, but I just got to get some type 2 swabs.
My question is, how many drops should I use?

Some people say 1 drop each side, some say 2 drops each side

Just wanted a few opinions!

2 drops, doesn’t matter on which side.
One way or another, after 1 second, both sides will be equally wet.

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

Cheers guys.

Now i gotta somehow find the courage to pay the £35 for the swabs

Incidentally, I have some pec pads, which is what the swabs are made from, and which I know I'm not supposed to use on my sensor.......
But has anyone ever used the pads for sensors?

I understand that they are not cleanroom made etc, but what d'ya think......????

That's what the Copperhill method is. Pec pads wrapped around a stick, more or less. Check their site out: http://www.copperhillimages.com/index.php?pr=products (external link)

Yeah I have always known about all these swab methods of cleaning a sensor, never knew how stupidly expensive they were until I decided to buy one on my next order.

I went with the SensorKlear: http://www.lenspen.com/403/377/ (external link)

Many have reported this is what Canon uses in house when blowers don't work.

I've used the lens pen on my lenses and absolutely love it so I figured if they can make a lens cleaner that actually works unlike all 5 lens cleaning kits I have (all leave damn swrill mark residue that I can see if held at the right angle in sunlight) then maybe they can make a decent sensor cleaner.

I've used it once and it worked like a charm. It was $10.

Granted, I'm not lens change happy and when I do have to change a lens I do so like an indy pit crew changes a tire, also I live in a pretty dry place, so maybe I just don't need a wet cleaning system.

Ah I saw these in our local Jessops.
They were £15, which is considerably cheaper than the swabs.

I might consider one then!!

Thanks for the info

How do you actually use it btw?
The video on their site doesn't really help!

First use a blower and get as much dust out of the chamber and sensor.

Then use the brush end of the SensorKlear and clean everything AROUND the sensor, do NOT use the brush on the sensor, reason being you might get some things like grease/oil from the shutter on the brush then put it on the sensor and you will really need a wet cleaning method afterwards.

Tap, twist (this loads graphite on the tip) then remove the cap and wipe the sensor with it. Apply light pressure and wipe back and forth, up and down so you cover the entire sensor. I start with the edges/corners then just wipe back and forth until I have covered the entire sensor.

I then follow up with some blasts with a rocket blower and go out and test. 100% clean!

For the sensor you want the SensorKlear, for lenses get the LensPen. Same idea/technology, they both use a felt tip loaded with graphite. I love it because it doesn't leave a residue, maybe some powder (I never saw any) but that's why I follow up with the blower.
