Another "RELEASE" question

Do I need a release to publish pictures, that I shot of buildings on private property that are visible from public roadways.

If it is buildings, I do not believe you need a release.

What exactly do you mean by publish? You can display them on your website without any question. The gray area comes in when you attempt to sell these images for commercial gain and the buildings have an identifiable corporate identity.

I know that when I was uploading some images to stock sites and it had identifiable corporate visible they always asked for a release from the company. I am not sure if this is to the letter of the law or if they are just being overly cautious.

I write a column for a small local paper (first time I've ever done this) my next column will be about old barns, homesteads and tobacco barns, mostly not in use and some in advanced disrepair. The picture will be published in the news paper.

Journalism and editorial use generally do not need a release. There are some rare exceptions, but for your purpose, I wouldn't worry about it.
