Refraction on a Shieldbug.

I tried getting a refraction on a shieldbug today. It was very very hard because the bug would NOT stop moving around. Also because of its curved back the droplets would slide off very easily.

Still I got a couple good shots that I would like to share. Tell me what you think.

Now look here. This just isn't fair. Some of us haven't even posted a good refraction shot yet. Then you go and post these. ;)

Great shots Pete. Very impressive.

Interesting refractions- making it hard though doing it on a bug :)

Thanks for the comments.

I'm really happy that the second one turned out, the droplet was sliding off its back and I got it just a millisecond before it fell off.

I wish I had a one of those macro flash rings, then I could have had better lighting. I'll get one for next season for sure, along with a DSLR.

LordV - How about a refraction on a hoverfly... while its in flight, that's the next step :)

I put them on him Bill. I found out that bugs don't like having water on them. Because once they learn where the water is coming from (tip of my finger) they avoid it and run the other direction. When I put some on a grasshopper a few days ago, he would use his hind legs to flick it off his body.

I was going to remove my originals and post these, but being just a beginner I wanted an experienced opinion.

I looked at my pictures on my laptop, which has a better screen than my home PC, and noticed that they looked a bit "washed" with a beige tone.

I tweaked them a bit more on my laptop. Can someone please tell me if went in the right direction? Do these look better than the ones I posted originally? I want to print an 8x10 of one of these.

Your help is much appreciated.
