I was wondering what you folks make of this, after reading this statement from Rob Galbraith after doing a few tests creating a JPEG from a RAW file created in the MKIII I can see a slight improvement in IQ using DPP than RAW Image Task but not much.

I always shoot RAW anyway but I guess this may be worth a look at for people who shoot JPEG in Camera.

Any Thoughts?

"As per Canon's usual practice, the downloadable full-resolution JPEGs have been generated from CR2s converted in RAW Image Task, Canon's software that closely mimics the camera's internal processing. This means that the files almost certainly look less detailed and more smoothed than if they had been converted in Digital Photo Professional instead. As a result, they're probably not indicative of the level of image clarity the EOS-1Ds Mark III will be capable of. Unless you intend to shoot in-camera JPEGs mostly, in which case the files are likely a very good indicator of what you can expect."

Dunno. Aside for about a week when I got my first Canon DSLR, I've never used the Canon SW (except for the tethered app for the mkIII).

I always shoot RAW - albeit (now) with jpegs saved to the second card slot in my mkIII. These are routinely deleted as soon as I've successfully got the main RAWs into the PC.

Just looked at those examples - noisy and spotty! (dustbunnies on a new 1Ds?)

Must have been me, talking in my sleep ;)

Yes, DPP is better then ACR IMO: Better colors.

On noise: Go look at a print, not a 100% crop ;)
