Thanks imaginos, that would make a nice kit. So you think the 5D is still well worth investing in at its current age?
I'm quite adamant that, all other things being equal, and on a dollar for dollar basis, the 5D is the best camera that Canon makes. Even though the strongest rumors have it being replaces early-ish next year, I would have no regrets buying one. It's image quality is superb, the viewfinder is big and friendly, it's high ISO is just now being threatened by less-costly cameras, it's big without being clumsy, and otherwise awesome to shoot with. It's everything you would [conventionally] expect out of a 1 series at half the price. Rather than showing it's age, I say it's still showing how far ahead of its time it was. Just in case there are any lingering doubts: I am fully onboard with the 5D kool-aid.
I sold mine about three months ago. A friend who does weddings was in somewhat-emergency need of a new body, I had a new 1D3, the rest writes itself. You mentioned portraits and stills; this is certainly the camera for that. The only reason I moved up to a 1D3 is that I'm going to be doing A LOT of travel over the next three years without much opportunity for repairs; I really needed something with a great deal of ruggedness and a 1Ds2/1Ds3 just didn't fit the budget. I can easily foresee myself getting another 5D in the next 18 months as a clear-weather/backup, 5D2 or not. I dunno; we'll see. But selling it was a damn difficult thing to do.
[Edit] If the supposed 5D's replacement looming so close is a concern, you might think of getting a 30D on the cheap to keep you shooting until then. Just keep in mind that we had 18+ months of the 40D coming out "next month" according to all manners of "distributors." So who knows when the 5D will get replaced.

may be worth it as I do like that glass line up though I would have to lean towards the 85mm lens over the 50mm as when I had a 50mm I rarely used it.
Well if that's the case, then go forth and conquer. I only chose the 50 1.2L because 50mm is a classic prime and it was somewhat less expensive than the 85. Well, that and drip sealing is important for me because, as I said...ruggedness. From what I've seen/heard, the 85 is a little sharper anyway.
Definitely let us know how it works out.
