how the heck do you people get super super super close shots like this? i don't necessarily mean technically, as i guess the kenko tubes would do it...

but how do you physically get so close to these insects without either disturbing them or them moving out of frame, and how to you even find them to begin with??

Bugs are a bit like human males - can't do more than one thing at once - so if they are occupied doing something like this they are actually much more easily approached. As to finding them - just a case of getting used to looking.

do you use dslr's or point and shoots?

Most of the macro-shooters here use DSLRs but some do take excellent shots with P&Ss often with add on Raynox lenses.

Both images are excellent, but I really like the second shot!

so, if dslr, then i imagine tripod for sure, right? and no flash correct?

i use a 30D with my 430 ex flash. all my shot are handheld. tripod make it too hard to move around for insects. they are constantly are on the move. should look at the macro rigs section and see what i mean.
