It's just too good of a deal.

I can score a Nikon F4S for a extraordinarily reasonable price, and drop the savings onto a decent tripod and some glass I would otherwise do without.

Rubbing my hands in anticipation as I type... and THAT is REALLY difficult!!

Somehow when you say "extraordinarily reasonable", it just seems to kill the "extraordinary" part. :-) How reasonable can reasonable be? It either is or isn't.

Oh, I almost forgot. See ya.

Congrats on spending more money on film and developing!

Is it an American political figure from last century?

Speaking of noinks, i have one on my way to me. Its an F3 though and i promise to not go over to the dark digital side (or should that be noisy digital side?).

Its going to join the ranks of my other film cameras (external link) still in active service ;)

My friend lent me his old F3 and a few lenses. It's a nice camera, but I just spent $12 to develop and get a disk - and it took 4 days. I'll be sticking with digital. But it has been nice to try a real film camera.

I'm not sure if the 'dark side' reference applies to Noink or film. Personally, I'm grateful to Nikon for keeping Canon's feet to the fire all these years. Competition improves the breed, and Canon has to keep improving if they hope to stay in the business.

As for film, I'm reminded that there are people who like to hurt themselves, both physically and emotionally. One symptom of this phenomenon is using film cameras in a digital world.

I'm also reminded that for years, Noink tried to convince the faithful that there was no market for full-frame digital cameras. Canon proved them wrong, first with the 1Ds, and then when they brought out a mid-priced full-frame DSLR (the 5D).

The introduction of a full-frame by Nikon is not preemptive. It's a response to Canon having a virtual monopoly on the FF market. The new camera might be a real corker, but this is an ongoing battle, and Canon will come out with something better in response, whether it's actually needed or not.
