I personally shoot the 1D and the D60. They have their limitations but no more than a modern DSLR. Photography is based on light. If you have bod light a higher ISO is not always the solution...( I will remove the MKIII and 5D from that statement)

Well, I don't have any of those listed in the poll above, but I still use some of Canon's real classics (occasionally).

My classics are the venerable AE-1, the much loved workhorse for many, many shooters back in the 1980s, plus the REAL classic, the late, great Canon A-1. The A-1 was the first full multi-mode Canon, featuring Av, Tv, P and Manual an unheard of combo at the time, loads more features and very much a semi-pro camera roughly holding the position where the 5D sits in today's Canon range.

I have used and abused these classic Canons for over a quarter of a century, they take it all in their stride. They are bent, dented, have grooves worn in the metal bodywork where the strap clips have rubbed yet still work perfectly.

I think that we have a way to go before the cameras above become 'classics'. I would allow the earlier canon DSLRs classic status however, due to their revolutionary position.

I've been carrying the dslr in the tail bag, but your picture has me thinking about what I am going to do with my older chase harper tank bag!

300D a classic? That's my newest camera.

Most of the other stuff is from the 70s lol

And I was hoping this thread was going to be about classical portrait light :)

Up until last week, I still used the classic 300D. My dad wanted a better camera for his P&S and I wanted a better DSLR. He sent me a check so I could buy my 5D and I'm shipping my old 300D to him...with a few lenses too.

Now I do still have a classic Minolta film camera....

Classics? Heck, not a single one of those were around at the millennium. Not a F1 or A1, those were classics. I still shoot my A1 from time to time. Viewfinder the size of a drive in screen. Makes my 40 look like cell phone display. ;)

I have both a 1D and a D60, which are in the process of being sold to help pay for the new 1D Mark IIn. The 1D is a classic, although both compare badly to newer cameras that are available now imho. The 1D is horribly noisy above IS0 800 and its battery life is very poor, and the lack of a lcd magnifier is a major faux pais on Canon's part imho. The D60 has horrid AF and is noisier than the 1D at every ISO, and has poorer build quality imho, but other than those gripes, they're fine cameras.

Agreed. The AE-1 was a most excellent camera, as was the F1-n and the T90 (the T90 is my favourite of the 3 in all honesty). Don't forget the very popular AE-1 program, probably one of Canon's best sellers.

In the past, I had a little excursion with the 1D, which I found to be a wonderful camera given its age (which is prehistoric in digital terms). It gave me photos of such clarity, even more so than the 350D I had before that. The D60 was a camera I considered getting second-hand instead of going for a new 350D, but I took the latter option in the end. I'd consider the 1Ds a classic as well, being one of the earliest FF cameras on the market, together with the Kodak models. But it's never a clear argument as to what's really a 'classic'.

There were a few mentions about Canon's FD cameras on this thread, and I've had the pleasure of using both an A-1 and a New F-1 in the past. I particularly regret selling the latter camera because it performed well, was compact and yet handled nicely. It was also in great condition and I'm hard-pressed to find any other specimens on the market these days that could match the price and condition of the one I previously had.

Still proudly shooting a 10D here. I have not found a valid reason based on my photography needs to outlay the money on a new body. If you are happy with the results, you should keep the tool, thats my camera motto.

I wish I still had my A-1's with motor's....well looking at the price of film maybe not.

Never did get to try a T90...that camera looked like had it going on.
