Who loves the 300/350/400Ds BECAUSE they're so small?

I had been contemplating selling my 400D lately to a friend for around $700AUD to help fund for a 40D. A 40D would also go well with my current 30D due to the similar controls - but I just can't seem to let go of this little thing! :) One of the reasons has been that it's so SMALL. Many people go for a xxD over the xxxDs due to the much better handling ergonomics, but I for one have never found the xxxD grips to be bad (although no doubt the 30D is better), and the small size (or more specifically, the low height relative to the 30D/5D) has allowed me to fit it into bags like my laptop case, which I take to university each day. I just couldn't do that with the 30D/5D without changing bags.

I think I'll probably always end up owning a Rebel at a given time, just because I can nail all the shots I could with a 30D ..but sometimes the small size just makes it that much more useful to me.

Anyone else feel the same.. ? :)

Actually, the physical size of that camera range is one of the biggest reasons why I wouldn't entertain one...

The size is the reason I dislike using one but the reason my wife loves it, the only camera she said she liked more was the oly 410 as it fit her hands even better

Hahahah, I knew I'd probably be alone on this one.

If only I felt the same as you guys, then that 40D would be closer to my hands.

I would assume that originally the 300d was designed in Japan. Remember the original x-box controllers? They made the USA versions larger, and the Japanese versions smaller. This had the opposite ending where most USA users found the smaller Japanese controllers to be more to their liking.

I like the 400 but I did add a grip to get a better handle on it. It is still smaller that the 30D with the grip. The other diminsions I find not bad at all. I think if the put the wheel on the back of the thing and it handled higher ISO noise a little better I would have 2 of them instead of a 30D.

The 300D isn't that small. Feels like a normal camera to me, while I can't get my hands around the 350D or 400D comfortably - I feel like I have to hold 'em with my fingertips.

I'm with you, or at least I have been for the last 3 yrs. The XT was great in that it's size / weight was never a reason to leave it at home during the first year when I was learning. Then with a newborn boy, I was already loaded down like a Marine with more baby stuff whenever we went out.

I am planning on getting a 40D next year and the increased size is something I'm looking forward to.

For me, once you get a larger camera it's hard to go back to a smaller one. After using the 1d MKII the 20D, 30D size seem like toys and are not near as stable or balanced with the heavier L lens attached. I agree it is handy to be able to stick your camera in your pocket but some of the newer cell phones can come close to the quality of some of the P&S cameras ---------however, not quite that of the 300/350/400D's

i have both a 350d and a 1d, after using the 1d the rebel feels like a toy, but it does have some good points, one, its light, and i dont mind putting it out on the end of a rig, second, without a grip and with a 50 f1.8 it is really tiny and can just be chucked in my fiancees handbag and taken nearly anywhere

i wont be selling mine anytime soon, but it doesnt get used too much

I go backpacking with my XTI and the nifty fifty. It's about the size of a point and shoot!

With the grip on the camera is fine to handle even with a decent size lens.

If you must know...
