my current lens line up: Sigma 15-30 3.5-4.5, Tamron 28-75 2.8, Canon 70-200 2.8L, Canon 50 1.8, and soon a Canon 100 2.8 macro.

I am piecing together a kit to settle me until I start to make more money than I am right now with photography. I am also piecing together a complete kit to take to Iraq with me in three weeks.

Long story short, I bought all my gear a year ago. Today the only thing I have left from that beginner stuff is the 50 1.8 that I've got. I have bought and sold all my gear in the past couple weeks. I am shooting on 1dMkII right now and I am not a fan of the nifty at all. To be honest it never spends much time on the camera. The focusing sucks on it and mine is a softer copy.

I have gotten a few gigs for a local concert company and I mainly used me 70-200 2.8L. It would be nice to get this lens, I have the money, but I don't want to waste it.

It would be nice to have it for it's lower f/stop, and its DOF, but do you think I should get it?

Thanks to everyone.

Well you have a 50mm lens now, so would you use it if it was built better? The f/1.4 is a great lens, but it's the same prime FL as what you have now, so if the only thing holding you back is the build, yes get it, but if other reasons are keeping you from using it, maybe primes aren't for you.

I have the 50mm f1.4 and love it. I recently added the 85mm f1.8 and will be getting the 28mm f1.8 here soon. All for the same reason. Low light, fast AF shallow DOF shooting. I like to shoot around the house with whatever lights are on, so for me these three are awesome lenses and don't break the bank too bad. I'd love the Ls, but all 3 of these are ~$1000...

I just sold my 85 1.8 in my frugal attempt to build my new setup. I had a 200 prime but it just wasn't cutting it for motorsports and concerts and stuff like that. I like primes, used to make up most of my kit, but I slowly started gathering more and more zooms. I'm not really sure why that is.

I would like to have something for near dusk, where I wont have to bump up the Iso, but it is either bump the iso on a 2.8 lens or only slightly on a 1.4 lens. I guess I may buy one, or I'll just wait til' I get back, we'll see.
