I am new to the forum but have been taking pics with a 20D for about a year. I just purchased a 5D and have been experimenting with it. I take mostly sports pics. I use a 70-200mm 2.8 L series lens with no flash but have a 580EX speedlight flash. My daylight shots of soccer seem to be crisp with all the sunlight and when I get a good "lock" on focus. Am I doing something wrong, should I be using flash at night? I have read a couple of posts regarding difficulty with the 20D & 5D using AI Focus vs. AI Servo. The first shot below is the 5D enlarged only in photoshop. The second is is from the 20D not cropped. The football shot has some blur to it and is not nearly as crisp. I like the 20D for bringing the action up close and I don't get that from the 5D due to the full frame. Any ideas, constructive criticism is always welcome http://www.halophotography.net/files/index.htm (external link). Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!! I'm not exactly sure what you're asking but shooting in dark conditions can make it difficult to get a high enough shutter speed to perfectly freeze motion. It also makes it tougher for the autofocus to "lock on". Both of the pics you posted look very nice to me.

With the high ISO's available with the 5D (and sometimes in good light with the 20D) I can freeze the action but sometimes it seems that I can't lock on and get good clear focus. With the 5D at 3fps I am really focusing on getting the one good shot instead of knocking out 5 or 6 frames with the 20D. My question is have there been any issues with the 5D or 20D getting a good focus? I saw a post here that talked about AI Focus vs. AI Servo for getting a better focus. Is there anything to that?
