A short set this time -was experimenting with flash placement again. Canon Xti + MPE-65mm macro lens + diffused MT-24EX macro flash on a Really Right Stuff flash bracket (one flash head on an extender).

First shot with one flash head directly at the dragonfly and the other pointed toward the background.

Next is one flash head directly at the dragon and the other on an extender and pointed straight down from the top (acting as fill for the subject).

Same setup as the previous image for these last two shots.

Hi Great series
love the colour of these
there does seen to be more depth of field in the first shot the body is sharper although flash placement would not affect this
nice lighting in all the shots
Pete

Lovely shots but three light reflections in the eyes looks a bit odd ?

Great shots again.

Think I prefer #1 with the background illuminated, but that's just personal preference. They are all very good.

I get reflections form the flash and sometimes form the sun -those areas are just about all that's visible if the flash doesn't fire.

Thanks! Sometimes I like to see something in the background, and sometimes I prefer the isolation when the background is dark.

Thanks Alby! I like how using one flash for fill brings out the detail in the wings.

Excellent series John, I'm torn between the first and last images. I do like the background being lit up like it is in #1, but can see the benefit of using the 2nd flash as fill in the 2nd through to 4th shots. The last shot is a stunner, one of the best Dragonfly shots I've seen in a while (and one of the prettiest dragonfly's that I've seen).

Hiya DT,

Great series of shots, for me I like #4 best of all, the lighting to me is far better in this shot.

Cheers for now
Mark
