Nearest I can get to for an ID is a turnip sawfly- obviously thinks my car is a giant turnip :)

You don't drive a Volvo do you Brian? If so, it's mistaken a Swede for a turnip... Sorry!

Great shots again. I think #3 is the best of an excellent series.

Excellent series Brian, with my favourites being #1 and #4. I was trying to remember what a Sawfly looked like (I'm getting rusty lol). #1 must be particularly trick, in trying to get enough light on the sawfly itself, without horrible reflections from the car's surface. Do you drop the FEC a bit for that type of shot or just change the direction of the flash path (or both perhaps)?

Found from previous experience that I don't have problems taking pics on the car (take enough shots on it) I do sometimes increase the FEC by 1/3 just because the light colour tends to cause slight underexposure. Flash is in it's normal position. The only time I have trouble with bug shots on the car is when they are on the windows- can get either underexposure or overexposure depending on the shooting angle and where the natural light is coming from.

Interesting. I guess the colour seems close to a neutral gray, probably helps a bit. I wonder if the paint has a high absorption rate (of light) as well.
