Okay. So I've had this 1D MKII for about 6 months now, and I've never really cared since I only shot for myself. However, I finally got a chance to shoot someone else's engagement pictures! So, I've finally got to figure out how to change the name of it.

I've tried zoom browser but it doesn't seem to work. I've looked in the manual and online for help, but no go. I can get into "my settings" in zoom browser, but it says that it can't connect to the camera. I've tried this on 3 different computers.

Can someone give me a step by step tutorial on how to change my settings?

Thanks.

Did you try to connect using firewire or USB? You have to connect via firewire for the Canon software to detect the 1 series cameras.

I'm pretty sure that the name changing functionality is in EOS Utility. But EOS Utility should also be launchable through Zoombrowser somewhere. I'm not at home so can't confirm that at the moment.

It says that it cant connect to the camera because you're using the USB connection. To access those options and the "remote control" option you must connect you're camera via the Firewire connection.

I had the same problem when i got my 1st 1D mark2 camera...

Yup. Connect via FireWire. Hopefully EOS Utility opens up. If so, there should be a camera settings button that you can click on. You can change it in there. This is detailed in the software manual, not the camera manual btw.

Is this naming function in "setup camera" in the EOS utility? Looks like that button is only accessible though when the camera is linked via firewire to the computer?

My camera is new (so no prior name is in that file), but I've often wondered when in Zoombrowser how to get Owner's Name into each photo file.

I think part of the problem is the software. What camera did you have before? IIRC, the Mark II is old enough that the EOS view utility from a 30D won't work right.
I have a Mark II and it works at home. My steps were (again, IIRC)
Uninstall all Canon stuff
Reinstall DPP
Reinstall the proper version of the utility from Canon's website
Reinstall Zoombrowser
install firewire drivers
installed fireware card in PC
hooked camera up to firewire
Turned camera on
DISCO

i installed the software on my flatmates PC as that is firewire andnot had any canon software on before and it doesn't work.

My current PC didn't have it on either but I don't have firewire on that but camera window opens.

I'm just downloading all the latest updates from the canon website.

Go to Canon's site and request the software ONLY for the MARK II. If you download all the CURRENT updates, I think you're shooting yourself in the foot.

yeah don't know why I was messing around in zoombrowser, just downloaded the latest EOS utility prog and bingo. All I have to do is figure out how to work the camera now as it only arrived today and I am coming from a 30D background. Nice learning curve ;-)a

Never mind... you got it... i was preparing this post before you posted that you got it... my bad...

You shouldn't have that big of a problem...
What i did was:

1) install EOS-1D Mark II WIA drivers since my windows version didn't know the camera...
2) run the canon software (already had it installed from my Canon 20D)
3) after running the EOS Viewer Utility, started scratching my head trying to figure out why didn't i have all the options available...
4) searched the net, and here in this forum found out that i needed a frewire cable
5) got a firewire cable, and all worked well

#1 - this is what i got with a USB cable connected

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif'

#2 - this is what i get with the firewire cable connected

IMAGE NOT FOUND
Byte size: ZERO | Content warning: NOT AN IMAGE

#3 - this is the option that shows up after pressing the camera settings option, and what you're searching for

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif'

#4 - and this is what shows up on the device manager window whem i have the camera connected via firewire

IMAGE NOT FOUND
HTTP response: NOT FOUND | MIME changed to 'image/gif'

P.S.: i'm using a old version of the software, it's version 1.2.1.14. I never updated it because this one works and i only use it to have the remote control option available, other wise i use lightroom and photoshop to edit my photos.

Hope this helps...
