FLASH NEVEC ON THE 40D

Hi All,i was just having a play with some flash shots with my new 40d using the flash in AV mode.
The NEVEC that is built in to the bodys seems to have been taken away on the 40d.
I am not sure if this was the case on the 20 and the 30d but i think this has to be an improvment as it gets rid of the annoying under exposed backgrounds that i sometimes had on my 350d.
If anyone finds this to be different with ther 40d i would love to know

Flash nagative evaluative exposure compensation.
When using the flash in AV mode in some lighting situations the camera sets a faster shutter speed to underexpose the background to 'pop' the foreground image.
I think that explains it ok

With E-TTL II, NEVEC only applies when using Evaluative metering in low-light conditions (where the flash will be providing the majority of the lighting). Are those the conditions that you're testing under?

Let's hope they finally did remove it. I for one have allways thought it was worse then useless...

Hi Doug, i have just realised my mistake.
Not being used to having an auto ISO function i did not notice that the 40d was doing it by selecting a slower ISO, where as the 350 d does it by setting a faster shutter speed.
If i do not use the auto ISO function it does nevec identical to the 350.
Sometimes it just takes the help of others to make you think .
