Hi All,

Let me try and briefly describe what happened during a shoot yesterday:

On manual mode and when I click the shutter it stays closed for a long time, almost like it's sticking, and the LCD screen says "Err." Nothing else, just "Err" and doesn't show any other icons or my shutter/aperture settings. I don't think the shutter is sticking because it seemed to stay shut the same amount of time each time I tried to re-fire. I changed batteries (even though mine was fully charged) changed compact flash cards. Still got the "Err" message. I just waited about 10 minutes and then it started working again. This is very disconcerting! I bought the camera off of the forums and it did this once or twice when I first got it, but when I asked the guy at the camera store about it, he said it was probably due to a low battery. He said 5ds are known for going screwy when the battery isn't sufficient. I guess I don't understand why this happened so many times yesterday, and what it means, especially if it was with a full battery.

Please help! Since I bought the camera off of here I don't have a warranty or anything. Would really like to get this fixed if it's a problem!

Thanks so much for any help!!

Does it only do it in manual, or does it do it in other modes as well? Are you using a grip, and if so, is it seated properly and tight? Finally, have you tried using a different lens (to make sure the error isn't something generated by an easily replaced component)?

Hi Mark,

Thanks so much for your response! I did try switching lenses and nothing happened but right before I did get the camera to work, I put it on the green auto mode and it worked for the first time. Then I switched it back to Manual (the mode the camera is always in) and it continued to work, so I carried on.

Do you think this has anything to do with it? Thank you for your time!!

I wonder if there might be a dirty contact in the mode dial, but who knows at this point? Until it fails and stays failed, it's going to be difficult to troubleshoot. What happens if you set your Custom Mode to Manual and start from there?
