i just ordered my first dslr, a black Canon Rebel XTi. I wanted to get a 40D but i got a good deal on a brand new XTi, $550, plus it's my first non p&s camera so it will be nice to learn on. I also ordered the Canon 50mm f1.8 lens. im going to get another lens in a few weeks. im really excited and can't wait for it to get here.

EXCELLENT... good work and welcome to the world of the empty wallet.

Really sure you will enjoy your new camera - especially as your obviously keen to learn it and you seriously have come to the best place around to talk the trade and get lots of good info and subjective opinions. Just remember to enjoy it and not get too wound up about what others think should matter... hehe i find myself talking sh#t in here instead of editing photos :):):)

Enjoy. It will serve you well until you start wanting more! Nice lens to start with too. Primes help you think alot about composition and since it's 1.8 you'll get to play with and learn about controlling depth of field very easily too.

don't expect images to be as sharp out of camera as your P&S, they do require processing. Very little in camera processing is applied compared to a P&S.The camera probably comes with a simple version of Photoshop but you may well already have the full version.

Congratulations and welcome to a new addiction!

Read lots of books and this forum to fully understand your camera and the world of pictures that it will offer you. Bye bye P&S.

Welcome to POTN! It's always nice to find another XTi user. You'll love the camera and the nifty fifty (50mm f/1.8 ) is a great little lens. It's a lot of fun. Just have a good time taking pictures, post them on here and ask for criticism! It's the best way to learn, IMO.

Congrats on the new kit. It will come with a battery so you'll be good to go once you get it charged. Welcome to the board.

A new camera should come with the battery, charger, and a tiny CF card. You'll want a bigger one in a hurry - fortunately they're cheap these days.

Have fun!
