Get the extra battery holder later on, so you can shoot longer. Get a 4Gb CF card, so you can take a lot of photos. Oh, you should get a UV filter to protect your lens. That is about it for now.

The best zoom lens is two steps forward, and the best wide angle lens is two steps backward.

A new camera should come with the battery, charger, and a tiny CF card. You'll want a bigger one in a hurry - fortunately they're cheap these days.

Have fun!

It comes with only a battery and a charger. No tiny CF card of any kind. That you need to go out and buy. Before you ask, here is the link to...

The best memory card to get..

You need spare batteries? Read this...

Oh, now you want a grip for your XTI...here you go...

Your neck strap is uncomfortable you say..here you go again...

What?? Afraid to drop your camera, then here you go...

You now need a bag? Visit the following recommended brands...

Addicted yet? We all have travelled the same path. Have fun!

To save you the trouble, start researching what type of bag you want or need. As stated, check out those links above for recommended brands. Keep in mind the following:

  • If you are going to grow with this hobby, make sure you get the right bag size (room to grow).
  • In my opinion, Canvas Domke is the only way to go!

I also just got my first dslr. Ordered a black XTi ($537 shipped!), but ship date was 2 weeks out and I was heading to hawaii, so I switched my order to a silver one (bleh). The silver is starting to grow on me.

Good deal. Now you have the nucleus of a $10,000 system.

On researching bag type, and thinking of the future - yes, yes, yes.

In just a year, I'm on my second one simply because I never anticipated that I would add three lenses and CPL's and UV's, and rings, and extender, and cable release, and - well you get the picture.

On manufacturer or brand, I might not fully endorse nutsandbolts opinion - there are a number of very good bags out there - just look at as many as you can. The best source is a well stocked camera store, but it can't predict the future.:D

When did voluptuous become voluminous?

What other bags are out there?

Add Tamarac on that list as well.
