I love these "tell me what I should buy" questions.
Looking at the 40D stats, comparing it to the D80's and you can't imagine how useful the difference between the two are then maybe you should stick to the D80 and change your name?
Fortunately for you, both camera have an Auto mode.

Sorry for sounding mean but both cameras have the capability to take great images but only you can decide which one is right for you.

Buy Canon and stay with us.
I have the 40D with the (I look like a pro) battery grip, and it's a great piece of technology.
It's taking me a bit of time to get used to coming from a Canon D60 from 2002, but now i'm understanding it more, the better it gets :-)

Thanks, I am planning on getting the 40D.
One more question, could anyone tell me how good this lens is? (external link)

I own that lens, it rarely (and I mean RARELY) comes off my camera.

I think you ought to wait for the D300 to come out and then make your decision. That is exactly what I'm doing. It's either going to be a D300 or a 40D....

The D300, at least on paper looks like an amazing piece of hardware. The 40D looks great also....

good luck on your decision.

Love this forum, even though I shoot with dark side. :D

One of the best lenses you can buy (and I say that as a very happy owner of its main "rival" the Canon 100-400mm zoom).

I'll second that motion. keep in mind it has no "IS"

I am not sure that's quite right.
