Rather get a decent one. See the other polarizer thread here;

Kind regards, Wim

From their web site:

"Targus Digital is the leading global supplier of digital and video camera accessories.
Our goal is to seek out and deliver not only the latest in technology but the best in versatile, lifestyle-accommodating products to enhance your digital experience"

Does not look like they make their own accessories, just a supplier.

Do you have a 58mm lens?

Ditto what Wim posted earlier. Get a good one for not much more money. The polarizer is probably one of the most important "accessories" that you can have in your bag...buying one from Radio Shack may not be the best idea. Here's a link for quality filters:

If the B+W line is over your budget, Hoya is another good choice.

no i just have the kit lens which is 58mm ... i looked for hoyas but they are abt 40-60 bux; i can almost get the nifty fifty lens for that price :-)

well, like always it's better to buy a better one than experiment with a bad one ... actually, i can take it and test; and then return it if it doesn't work as expected ...

I have one and have used it. I have to say that it seems to work as polarizers should in reducing reflections and saturating colors.

However, it may be responsible for a strange "grainy" look to the sky in several pictures and a magenta-ish cast in some as well. I can't be sure as I was shooting with the kit lens which is not known for spectacular colors to begin with, but some of the photos just look a bit odd.

When I upgrade to a new wider-angle lens I intend to purchase a quality b+w polarizer as well. It is the brand I have always used in the past and they have been great. I just couldn't see spending more than the lens cost to use one with the kit lens.

I'm all for saving a couple of bucks and not always needing the best of the best but I think I'd draw the line at a Targus filter. I'd even take a Sunpak circular polarizer over a mystery manufactured Targus filter.

If the B+W CPL is out of your budget, here's a link for a Hoya package deal consisting of a Pro-1 UV filter and a Pro-1 CPL for $60:

http://hvstar.net …ction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=290 (external link)

I'm not a Hoya user, but I think the Pro-1 line is their best grade. Maybe someone else can confirm that. Either way, this is a pretty good bang-for-the-buck deal. Ultimately, the decision is yours.

PS I don't know what lenses you have in your kit, but there are other very good lenses with the same filter diameter, such as the 28-105 Mk II and the 100 macro for example. If you expand your set-up to non-L lenses, the 58mm is a pretty common filter size. Also, with a better grade filter, you can always sell it later.
