Hiya All,

Well it's happened again, another case of the ' Mysterious Crud ' so I've no Camera for an undetermined time  I've tried all the so called wonder cleaners to no avail the only thing I didn't use was a Brillo Pad, as I said to Brian, " on Mon. Night I put the camera in the Cupboard, Tues. morn I took it out took one shot & all this Crud appeared from somewhere, seems to me to be an oily type as nothing ' over the counter ' works

Anyway there tiz can't odds it just gota wait & see what happens eh

Cheers for now
Mark

Whenever i use the Rocket Blower, i always place the vacuum hose next to the housing and set it going before i blow the Rocket. And i`ve noticed that my sensor has become a lot cleaner lately, even at the higher mags.

One of the problems with the blower is that it can dislodge dust from other internal parts of the camera, you can even end up blowing it into the viewfinder ...

That's not very nice at all Mark. As said I think the blower can put more on than it takes of. I think a brush would be best.

Hiya Brian, Bill,

Brian,
I took it into a place called J.C.I. Camera Repair Service in Plymouth, I was going to send it off to ' Lehmanns ' but the turnround time is so long & this guy recons about a week hopefully.

Bill,
I guess for normal Dust the over the count cleaning kits & blowers are OK but this is something else that's obviously come from the inner workings, how or why that should be remains a mystery, it seems to be something in connection with using the Mirror Lock Up facility, but whatever it is it bloody annoying

I've searched the Net for the same prob. but it seems that I'm the only one that this has happened to, Sods Law again eh.

Cheers for now
Mark

Hiya Skylab, Gordon,

I don't think this is ' Dust ' as it is stuck fast, it definately seems to be oil based as it smeared when I used a brush which had been totaly clean & tested before use, that piece of Crud that looks like a S looks just like Eye Liner goo under a Magnifying Glass & it appears so have shiny particles in it

Cheers for now

Hiya Toby,

I only used Green Clean Wet & Dry Swabs & Visible Dust Smear Away but that damn stuff seemed to make it worse then when I used a Mag. Glass & saw what looked to be Metallic stuff I though best leave alone for fear of scratching the surface, not a good idea eh, leave it to the experts :D

Thanks for the heads up I'll watch that having done that course around Woodbury a couple of times in the past  I enjoyed all that beasting stuff, tell you what I was watching that new series on ITV & some of those Nods need a good kick up the arse, it makes me luagh how these young lads rec. they're so bloody 'Hard ' yet when the going gets though they bottle out big time  there was one young lad left last week because he was surrounded by to much 'Militaria ' WHAT A DUFFER eh

Cheers for now
Mark

yes that was quite funny - he felt claustrophobic, 'everywhere I look there are pictures of soldiers', be like training to be a librarian and complaining you are surrounded by books!

I bought some sensor cleaner about a week or two ago, after finally cracking it with having to clone out sensor dust, I went to the site on the bottle of eclipse, had a look at their tutorial video then decided to give it a crack. It's actually a pretty easy thing to do, it didn't come out perfect, there's still 2 spots of dust at the top of the sensor, but next time I should get it right.

Good luck.

Sorry to hear this Mark. I suspect that it's the foam that's around the mirror box that has started to decay - the old film camera EOS 630n had/has an issue with this. Before I even thought that, your comments about the 'dust' keeping on reappearing seemed odd, and that tells me that the mirror movement is causing it. That strengthens my suspicion. That should be covered under warranty, take it back to Canon, don't get any 3rd party to look at it.

I'm really hoping that you haven't damaged the sensor as well, otherwise it's going to be VERY expensive. Canon won't cover sensor damage from 3rd party products being used to clean the sensor, which is part of the reason why I refuse to clean sensors myself...

As to using a blower, I turn my camera upside down and gentle blow air into the camera's mount. Do NOT take the blower mast the mount, ie. inside the camera. Gravity helps dislodge dust more effectively this way :)

Hope it all gets sorted out soon.

Dave

Hiya Linda, S7000, Dave, Bryce,

Many thanks for your kind words & comments,

Dave,
That's an interesting theory on the foam, will be interesting to see what matey says when I get it back, I just hope it nothing to serious that's causing this, watch this space as they say

Cheers for now
