Hiya All,

Blimey what have I started here eh, one thing that's often crossed my mind is why oh why do manufacturers not make sealed Sensors in DSLR's as they do in P&S Cameras then we wouldn't get all this muck & trouble ???

Alby,

Your right, it was when I had to send it back re the Error 99 prob. I had, when the Camera came back the Sensor was covered in the same sorta Crud but I was able to clean that but it took some doin, I shall wait & see what the chap in the repair shop says & take things from there if ness.

Thanks again all.

Cheers for now
Mark

you cant take the lens off a P&S so they have an unfair advantage when it comes to dust

Hiya Toby,

Yea that's sorta what I meant to point out, surely the manufacturers could seal the lens opening with something like Optically clear Glass before the Lens lock, then no crud can get in, surely it can't be beyond the realms of possibility or is that just to damn obvious for em eh.

Cheers for now
Mark

Whatever you put in the light path would eventually get dust on it but it might be easier to clean if it was nearer the camera opening :). Did think of a high voltage electrostatic dust precipitator plate in the chamber somewhere or perhaps a sensor on a movable platform that could be bought forward for cleaning.

Yeh, but that'll bump up the price of the camera by a lot, and make it heavier... :p I'm just gonna stick with the swabs, easy enough to do, and pretty quick.

I used to be afraid of wet cleaning my 30D sensor. I bought eclipse and pecpads and it takes about 5 minutes to have a spotless sensor.

I know they won't ship overseas due to the fluid, but if you get can get a similar kit in UK. Your sensor will be spotless.
I use the rocklet blower for the lenses only. I think it creates a bigger mess. I would send the camera to canon to have it clean by them. In the USA they do it for free.
