I wanted to have a quick play with live view, what a difference it made for macro, live view, zoom in, fantastic.

Also this was shot at iso 800 I realise the dof and flash will have helped with noise but I still think its such a clean image (although jpg made it a little worse.

these are straight out the camera.

Main reason I've bought 40D... I don't think lots of people realize this huge potential for macro AND landscaping (manual focus)...
Great photos!

I really like the live view feature, :D I think all those LV bashers out there need to get one and try it b4 they bash it ( course that goes along with all the bashers when they dont have what they bash and only go by what they "heard")

I'm not one to bash LV -- I have an S3 IS with a swivel-screen LCD and it's way cool for those occasions where you just have to get off the chart.

Does the 40D have a swivel screen? If not, I'll wait...

But....but.....your S3 IS is such a slow camera compared to 40D with a kit lens:p

The best zoom lens is two steps forward, and the best wide angle lens is two steps backward.

Nice out of the camera shot. Hope you don't mind, did a quick levels adjustment and all, was curious... Quiet nice.

good to see that you're putting that live view to good use.

Agreed 100%

When I bought the 40D, LiveView was the last feature I cared about...seemed mostly gimmicky to me, and something I would rarely use.

However, after about 2 weeks of real-world use, LiveView is probably the feature I use most of all the new features on the 40D over the 30D. The secret is to set C.FnIII.6 on so you can AF in LiveView, and then fine-tune with MF. For Macro and Landscape, this is huge. And the 3" LCD is a welcome addition for those of us with less than 20/20 vision! Thank you Canon!

Now all I need is a real Macro lens!

Same for me. Live View turned out to be a much more useful and impressive feature than I initially thought it would be.

Its good that everyone is using what at first seemed to me to be a gimmick.

The image was shot with my sigma 70-300, for a cheap lens it never stops amazing me with its clarity.
