Looking to upgrade my old 17" LCD with something bigger, and MUCH better for color accuracy (its a 4 year old HP f70, not exactly a 'high end' model) Dont really want to break the bank of this (Id love to run a 30" Apple cinema, but thats just not happening!)

Size, not too crucial, just nothing smaller. Any great budget LCD monitors that have great color rendition and brightness? Dont really need a lot of features, Im currently running a dual screen setup, using my LCD as primary and an old CRT (that is suprisingly accurate, just too small)

Really want to stick with the LCD for space concerns, the 1 CRT takes up too much space as is

OOOhhhh.... :) I just was in the same position.... :)

I did lots of research and had a limited budget. I ended up with a NEC AccuSync LCD 20". It has the SPVA (I think) panel, and DVI inputs. I need to upgrade my video card to run the DVI... On my to-do list... But without it my color is awesome. I calibrate with a Monaco XR Pro system.. and my screen to print match is about 98% accurate. I'm VERY happy. :) I was having such a hard time getting good prints from my old HP monitor, so when I got my test prints back from this one... I was doing backflips! Almost perfect.. :)

(the sIPS panel is supposed to be the best, but you can't get it for under about $750)

I've been using the Spyder 2 and Printfix Pro to calibrate my printer (Canon i9900) and when viewed on my CRT its spot on, but not the LCD, I'll check the website and check out that monitor

Thanks for the input!

I picked mine up at a Fry's Electronics store.. I think you have them in California, don't you? Another one to look at is the LG Series... They looked good and got nice reviews also.. but when I went to compare them side-by side.. the NEC just seemed to be sturdier in build and looked great... I think mine is an older model... 203WXM but like I said, I'm very pleased.. and I'm picky about my prints matching.. so that says a LOT. I don't print from home though.. I use a Pro lab.

yeah, we have a few Frys out here in California, have 1 with an Atlantis Theme close to a friends house, I love to go in there because of the HUGE Jacobs ladder and fish tanks, but thats getting a bit OT...

Anyone tried the Apple displays? I've heard great things about them, but a bit more then I wanted to spend

If they still are in business out there, Fry's in CA may be "Incredible Universe."

IIRC, they both run under the same banner...

I was researching the Apple monitors too... because I have heard really good things about them.. they are more expensive and I read a few articles that explained the panel thing.. they use the same exact panel as some other brands.. Just paying for the Apple Logo..

Look up posts by Rene' Damkot ... Resident color guru. He has lots of links to monitor information. I read a LOT of crap while sorting through it all. But my budget did not allow for the higher end units.. so... Ianded with the NEC. WIsh I had saved some of the stuff I read, but I was in a whirlwind at the time.
