Pardon me if this issue has already been addressed, but I just got my 40D today. I noticed that I can't process the raw files taken with the 40D. They don't open in CS3 (ACR 4.2) nor do they open in RAW Task in ZoomBrowser EX, though I'm in the process of getting the lastest version of it 5.8b. I downloaded the Canon RAW Codec 1.0 for Vista, but it seems as though it doesn't support the 40D.

I would assume that the update for ZoomBrowser & RAW Task would allow me to process raws in those programs, but do I need to wait for a new codec from Canon before I can process 40D raws in CS3?

*EDIT
I can't process the raws in RAW Image Task even after downloading the latest ZoomBrowser update, 5.8, which means I have absolutely no way of processing these RAWs.

Are you sure CS3 is using camera raw 4.2? That is the latest version and supports the 40D raw images. I have a 40D and Vista. My ACR4.2 works great. Of course you will not be able to view them in windows explorer.

I assume you can already view the RAW's in the default Vista's Window Photo Gallery? As long as Vista can recognise the RAW format, you should have no problem with using it alongside CS3 ACR4.2.
Uninstall ZoomBrowser & Attempt to re-install the Codec.

Good Luck, let us know how you get on.

Install the software that came with the 40D. DPP and Zoombrowser works fine when viewing the RAW files, but I'm using WinXP. Give that a try.

Ah, quite the embarassing. Apparently I was running on ACR 4.0 even though the 4.2 update was already in my list of downloads, though I hadn't installed it yet. Works with 4.2!

Thanks for the help everyone. Looks like I'll be waiting for the next codec so I can see the thumbnails in windows explorer.
