After ordering the 40D, I'm still waiting for it to get here. While reading today I have come across some reviews that say the Autofocus on the 40D is worse than the 30D!!! Please post some action shots to put me back in a good mood and to regain faith in the camera :(

I don't have any problems with AI servo, and my 40D is pretty well set on that all the time
2 shots I took, while experimenting with Panning, taken at 1/60th., but it holds focus fine.

I just received my 40D this week, and only had the opportunity to play with it in the backyard with the kids....and had a dickens of a time with the autofocus.. It just was not catching it. I was using a 50mm f/1.8 as well....however, there are a ton of settings eluding to the autofocus....scary. I'm trying it on a night football game this friday. That will be the real test. I'm taking my trusty XT as my backup though...something about the autofocusing does feel funny...

Another note too....shooting in AI Servo and selecting the extended ISO to get iso3200....it was not holding it for some reason. At least when I went through the metadata in my images, none read 3200....and I took quite a few on this setting just to test it out....weird....

OK, just went outside again, played more with the autofocus settings (CNIII), iso3200, selecting AI Servo shooting in AV mode...had my daughter run, run and run....and wow....just takes practice. I'll post my daughter running later... Right now, she found wet chalk and is painting herself a storm, including herself......:D

Had a great time and had great results so far with tracking a moving target... plenty of user error - keeping target in the middle and experimenting between focus points but starting to get the hang of it :) heres some results...

Here's a few:

IMAGE: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1394/1434320943_744aa290a5.jpg

Moving at me, a cluttered background, and lousy indoor light at ISO 1250. I'm very happy with the 40D AF, much better than my 30D in the same roller rink. 80% keepers versus 20% with 30D

USe the "all sizes" or "different sizes" option to see larger version from within the set: http://www.flickr.com …o/sets/72157602147887463/ (external link)

These were all shot by the way with the 24-70 F2.8L which is not know for being a sports lens, but works as well if not better than my 85 1.8 on the 40D.

Thats one of 400 shots I was happy with out of a 1700 shot day of abseiling. I would say I only rejected 10% due to focal point, the rest simply not being the style I wanted! The above picture was of a guy Parafanning - a simulated parachute jump, and he was moving fast under me!
