Couple grasshoppers, one has horns.

Got the top photo the other day. After I finally got him cornered, he would sit still while I moved the grass.

The second one I got this morning. He was so small that I didn't know what he was till I focused on him. Didn't really get the eyes on the second one.

I've never seen one like the second pic. Any info on him would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I think I got the ID on the second one.

I agree with LordV. But I don't think #2 is a grasshopper!

Jack after going through about 50 pages on bug guide I was about to agree with you. Then I stumbled on it, I think.
After about two hours of searching the net, I think it actually is a grasshopper.

They are common to the Southeastern U.S. Commonly called a long faced toothpick grasshopper. (Achurum Carinatum)

If I'm wrong on my ID, someone please correct me.

That's a leg Jack. From what I've been reading they are very common around here. Pics of them are not common.
Now I'm going to be on a mission to get a great shot of one.
Now that I know what to look for I'll see if I can get a better shot next time.
They are just so dang small, that I can be looking right at it and not see it.

Maybe if you can get a tame bird that ears grasshoppers and put it on a leash, it will find one for your. All fooling aside, good luck!!

Thanks Bill, out of about 50 pages of pics on bug guide, I found 1 pic.
The grasshopper itself is common, pics of them are not.
Like I told Jack, I'm on a mission now for a sharp pic.

Thanks Joan, I'm going to try and get a better shot of the toothpick. Until today I didn't know such a critter was in my yard.
Everytime I go out in my yard I find something new.

It is exciting to find something different everytime you step outside Scott. I have not seen a grasshopper like this before...a most unusual creature. I look forward to seeing more pics of it if you find it again. What is its body length?
