I sent my 30D to Canon for cleaning and to be brought up to factory specifications while still under warranty. That went beautifully and the camera arrived today all clean and shiny.

When I sent it in I was showing folder 102CANON. I just took one of my cards, put it in the camera, formatted and took some shots. Now it's showing 998CANON. What would be the reason for this and what will happen when the folder number reaches 1000? Will it flip back to 001?

Hi Robert. That happened because of the CF card they used to test your camera.

So what does it mean, if anything? Is there a way for me to reset that?

There are a couple of ways to go. If you have one of your original CFs, you can format another one on the computer, put it in the camera, set the camera for auto file # reset. It should then go back to "0". Then load the CF with the original #s and you are back where you started.

I think you can also use the computer to rename file #s on a CF and set the # to whatever you want using a similar procedure.
