You just had go go "serious" on us, didn't you? :)

Yeah, I have this tendency to kill parties and jokes with horribly mistimed statements. YES! My streak continues! ;)

Hmm...But can't one do this with a Circle Marquee in PS and Reverse Selection and Gaussian Blur? Then if softness is desired, then I can simply touch the UV filter right after having some finger lickin' chicken?

While the 'blur' effect can be done somewhat in photoshop, let me assure you that the lensbaby effect is unique, and is extraordinarily difficult to truly replicate with Photoshop. while it might not be evident in every shot, the blur from a marquee does not do everything the lensbaby does. It partially distorts the bokeh in addition to the blur.

The Lensbaby is a specialty item. I don't use mine very often, though I have sold some images made with it. This is a pic that I sold for an optometrist who wanted to decorate her office with abstracts of her optometric equipment (I sold about 20 images to her, though this was the only Lensbaby shot I sold that shoot). Aside from the unique look, the process of shooting with the LB yields images you normally wouldn't take.

It also can partially replicate the effects of a tilt lens, which definitely can not be replicated in Photoshop. Look at the extreme depth of field along the center axis in this shot, while everything else blurs away:

Nice kitty. Aren't all kitties soft yet sharp?

Cat = soft, furry animal with six ends, five of which are sharp.

My lensbaby back focuses. How can I fix this?

Throw sand in your camera. It normally fixes backfocus problems.

That's too funny. BTW, just in case, this is the internet after all. Kids, do not do as this poster said, you will destroy your camera and void any warranties you may have. The poster does not take responsibility for an individual's action due to what he suggests in jest. If you destroy your camera, you will be in direct liability for your own actions. (and you should see a specialist because you believe everything you read on the internet. You may be suffering from a condition known as dumbassitis. People with Dumbassitis should not operate a motor vehicle or should not get pregnant or think they should get pregnant. Seek professional help and stay away from any sharp objects, like the white pages in the OP's image sample.)

I thought the only difference was that with the LB 3 you can lock the position of the lens.

Im 99% sure that is the only difference. I mean theres not much you can do to change a little piece of glass in flexible tube.
