My wife and I are coming up on our one year anniversary in November, and we really want to take a trip somewhere in Europe. We are willing to go a little earlier or later, so dates aren't important, as long as it's in the next 2 months.

I was thinking Prague, Bucharest, Sofia, etc would be neat places to visit. Any suggestions would be great. Anyone who wants to PM me with a package deal (y'know, something you saw online maybe, that includes airfare, hotel, tours or a small list of places to visit) would be extremely appreciated.

Just to remain on the photographic side: anything that makes my 40D, 10-22 and 17-85 shine would be great, too!

Thanks

I am not sure how much you are going to like Bucharest and Sofia, especially in November.
There are much nicer places in Rumania and Bulgaria than their capitals are in late fall.

Prague however, is worth seeing any time of the year.

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

I had a great time in Sicily... I can't wait to go back. I stayed just outside the US Naval station in Catania. Gorgeous, plus there's Mt Etna for great photo ops! Enjoy Europe!

It all depends on what you like to shoot, Munich could be a good choice, you need to go up to Neunschwanstein castle if you go. A few years ago my wife and I went from Zurich to Vienna, then to Salzburg and finally to Munich. I would also recommend going to Geneva and spending time in Switzerland. Another choice would be Spain, beautiful architecture, I would recommend Barcelona and then go south toward Malaga. Milan Italy is another great choice, wonderful cathedral. Salzburg with the castle and the quaint streets would be great as well.

Amsterdam, Prague, Lisbon, Barcelona ... I always book flights via one of our cheap airlines here, which you may not have access to, and choose their cheapest dates close to when I want to go and then I choose my own hotel via one of the online discount booking sites. Rare I can't get a well located 4* for silly money and so beat most cheap packages. I also tend to go for places with breakfast included as a decent breakfast sets you uo fior the day. Somewhere close to a city centre makes a huge difference.

i've been fortunate to see at least a dozen different european cities, and i've not been to a dud yet (well, dusseldorf wasn't the most exciting place).

prague is a great city, and relative cheap, too. keep in mind that in november, a lot of europe will be colder and darker, and maybe a bit wetter.

if i had to rank my top 5 euro cities, it would look like (in no particular order)

copenhagen
prague
stockholm
berlin
rome

and it was awfully hard to leave paris, amsterdam, brugge, london, florence and helsinki off there.

Unless you like cold/dark/wet then think southern europe in November. Or you could do the opposite and head into the Alps for the snow, they usually get a lot in November.

I was in Prague this summer for a weekend and I was completely bummed that it was only a weekend. Out of all the places I went to (Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg, Venice, Beaune (in Burgundy), Paris, Amsterdam, Brugge, Bratislava, and London), Prague was my favorite. It was just so laid back and everything was NOT excessively expensive . . . yet.
Amsterdam is a must see. It's just such a bustling unique city. Must head back there soon.
I personally really didn't care much for the larger, typically-touristy places - Paris, London, and even Vienna. It was just sensory overload, crowded, expensive, etc.
And congrats on the anniversary.

For October-November...I would do Barcelona, Malaga or Palma de Majorca. You could throw in Madrid or Lisbon as well...Southern Italy, Sicily and Greece aren't too bad then either...I suspect you would find Central Europe rather damp and chilly during that time frame...the sights are still interesting....but the weather is not apt to be your friend.

I love Berlin, Riga, Tallinn and Helsinki.

I would recommend going North to Inari in Finland just to say you've been inside the Arctic circle. I also recommend visiting Hell in Norway just so you can say you went to Hell :p

Yes! I'd do Spain for sure. Maybe Madrid, Toldedo (a MUST see, 30km from Madrid) and Escorial (40 km from Madrid) then maybe Barcelona and Ibiza.

I'm Bulgarian, trust me, you don't want to go to Sofia in November. It is going to be cold, gray and rainy.

I agree, stick to the south. Spain, Portugal, Italy, Greece, or (believe it or not) Slovenia is nice also (and super cheap).
