Thanks everyone! I'm looking to get a camera for my wife, something light to use as a walk around camera. We've looked into the Canon PowerShot SD850 IS, XTi, and even the Nikon D40. She really likes the D40 in terms of handling and feel. I agree it does have a good feel to it, but then I don't know if it's wise to invest in 2 different systems. I'll see if I can convince her to choose the XTi. :)

Yeah, give her the XTi, and you can pass on your old lenses to her! (Don't let her read this! :) )

Yes! xti or 30d or 40d... looks like you need more lenses. Be easier to get more if you both share.

Yes, the next lens collection I'm planning to get will be the 70-200mm f4 IS, and either the 50mm 1.8 (Metal Mount) or the 50mm 1.4. During my researched I got mixed reviews from both of the 50mm, 1.8 metal mount vs 1.4. Many claims the 1.8 w/ metal mount is sharper. Hopefully someone who owns any of the above lens can chime in on their experiences. Thanks!

I've been debating on purchasing the 5D and use my 30D as backup, I think this thread just helped me make the decision to go FF. Now to find the lowest price. Rod

I pretty much guarantee you wont regret it, you will probably find you prefer to pickup the 5D instead of the 30D, its just so much more enjoyable to use.
