What is your budget? Do you shoot in low light conditions at times?

Well i wanted to buy a lens for $200 or less if possible... i'm still trying to figure the camera out. I do live here in hawaii so lighting really isn't an issue, although i love to take sunset & moon pics so yeah i guess lowlight would be an issue to consider.

I recently got the Sigma 70-300 APO DG. Cost me $201 including shipping from Amazon.com.

Quite a nice lens so far. Haven't taken many critical shots except for some chart tests.

The Canon 28-105 USM II is a very nice lens too, perhaps a bit sharper than the Sigma. Its range overlaps the kit lens significantly, but if 105 mm is enough it's a good choice. I like the USM focus, too. Around $300.

Look at the inexpensive Sigma 55-200mm - small, light, unobtrusive and reasonably sharp. Makes a great companion to the kit lens.

Also take a look at the Sigma 70-300 APO or less popular Tamron 70-300 LD.

Many Beach/Digbuy, Photo17, B&H, and many others. Check with resellersratings.com if your ever in doubt.

Thats way over the $200 budget.

But to the op, if you can go a bit higher, the 20-300IS or the 70-200L are great lenses for about double the $200 but will deliver much better image quality. Might concider saving a bit longer and investing in some quality glass. Glass last a life time and will be usable with your next body years from now if you choose to upgrade.

Everyone is dumping thier 28-135 IS USM lenses that came with the 40D kit. I paid almost $450 about 4 months ago and now you can get one out of someone's kit for $300, but if you can swing another $100 you get a nice piece of glass with USM and IS. Some say the lens is substandard, but I really enjoy mine. 135 is a lot of zoom on a crop body let me tell you...

If you must know...

B&H, Adorama, Amazon, KEH.

I've gotten my last two lenses from Amazon and KEH.
