I recently got the Sigma 70-300 APO DG. Cost me $201 including shipping from Amazon.com.

Quite a nice lens so far.

Here's another recommendation for this lens if you're on a budget. I do a lot of exterior real estate photos and I often use it when I have to shoot a house perched up in the foothills or from a distance across a large fenced lawn or field. Pretty acceptable for wildlife too. Try eBay, Amazon and Sigma4Less.

This is a very tight crop of one of the hot air balloons that cruise my neighborhood every weekend, taken with the 70-300.

I believe that one isn't rated very highly. Its probably worth paying a little extra for the 70-300mm Tamron LD or Sigma APO.

Also check out this review thread on the Sigma 55-200mm https://photography-on-the.net …t=291362&highlight=55-200

I dont know anything about the Sigma 70-300, but I was going to say some kind of 70-300 lens. It wont be fast, but its got a decent amount of zoom and apparently both of them ( Sigma and Canon ) are relatively cheap.
