I got my 40d in early Sept. since then been reading these forums and trying to see how other people felt about it. I read a lot of reviews from people that had a 30d and didn't think it was a very worthy camera to upgrade to. So be it, I upgraded from the Rebel 350xt and feel it's a sweet camera. I just wanted to write and share with others that I really do like this camera a LOT. I love it's IQ at high ISO's, the speed, the 3 inch display and so much more. If you have the money and need a solid camera, u can't go wrong. I am just seeing so much complaining about dust, how nikon is better and not many people really saying they like the 40d. I wish everyone could have this camera. Forget silly arguements over 5d's or what camera is the best. I am not even trying to say it's the best...it's just a solid camera that can offer a lot to a photographer. I am sure there are skilled people that can get better pics then me with a disposable. So, hopefully more people echo some postive vibes for the 40d here and say what they like about it.

I had a 30D and now the new 40D for me is 10 times better overall, but I think overall I like the AF, and tracking, and improved VF most

I upgraded from 20D. I love the big lcd screen and menu. Also I am thrilled about all of the focus points being extra sensitive and not just the middle one. No more focus with center and recompose. I shoot mostly people.

i like the customization. I upgraded from a 20D which is a GREAT camera! The 40D just gives you a little bit more everywhere. I really like the 40d!

Many little things like not 100 pix to a file, how many different button presses that will wake it up, etc.

Upgrading from the 20D I like the larger LCD and the new menu system. The "My Menu" is very nice! Lets me toss my most used features in one spot.

LiveView has enhanced my macro work - I love it!

ISO performance, while not as great as a 5D or 1DMarkIII - is an upgrade from my 20D, and for $1300, I can't complain.

The physical feel is very nice, along with ISO in the viewfinder, etc.

What I dislike: 10Mp... My CF card fills up too quick :-D Give me 8Mp again :-)

yes,I got mine last night ..
I'm upgrading from the XT...,for me ,it's great...the viewfinder alone is worth the upgrade...focusing is instantaneous...so far so good, now I need to go over the manual.!!!

i just upgraded to the 40D from a 10D. i love the size of the screen, the speed with which it takes pics and writes to the card, the lack of lag in switching it on, the AF speed and to me, the IQ seems significantly better than the 10D. this might be me just trying to convince myself, but i think my pics look better now too compared to the pics taken on the 10D! :)

totally agree with you there. on my 10D i was really missing out on opportunities at weddings and in urban shots. had a lot of OOF shots. now with the 40D, a lot more of my shots are in focus...on the other hand, maybe it's just a placebo and all in my head. :)

I've used a 300D, and a 30D that were mine, and an XT and 20D that were my wife's... The 40D beats them all. The AF is great. I put on my old 75-300 and was seeing how well it would do in my apartment. It was pretty crazy. None of the other cameras could use it inside without hunting like crazy. The 40D was a tad slow focusing, but it consistantly found it's mark. The same thing goes for the 50mm f1.8 with the 40D. It focuses quickly and accurately, even is less than ideal conditions.

The build feels better. Just adding that little indent for my finger makes it so much more comfortable to hold. It feels just a bit heavier than my 30D, but seems to hold more comfortably in my hand.

The My Menu feature is great. I haven't totally decided what to put there, so I just put my CFs and Format and Auto-sync in Av Mode. Once I start using it more, I'm sure I'll narrow it down some.

The viewfinder is brighter. It really is. I love it. You can even get different focusing screens. Not a bad feature. I might never use them, but it's nice to know the option is there.

The 3" LCD is awesome. Having a RGB and Luminance Histogram is handy.

Live view is cool. I doubt I'll ever use it much, but if I'm setting up for a macro shot, It's going to be awesome. Being able to check your focus much closer than you ever could with just a viewfinder (no matter how big) will be the best.

It's just awesome. There isn't anything that I think the 300d/350d/20d/30d did better than the 40D.
