I received my BG-E2N grip yesterday and, although there has already been much talk about it, I wanted to add my own thoughts.

Well, I have to admit, the new BG-E2N grip does feel somewhat cheap. The build is not as robust as that of the 40D, and the buttons and dial do not feel solid at all. The quality just isn't there; grasping it feels like handling a toy. The difference is completely obvious when switching between the horizontal and vertical orientations. I will probably get used to the feel of this grip, and I can live with the look and ergonomics, but at the same time I have to join the ranks of those who have become disappointed with Canon regarding this product. For an accessory that is supposed to complement the sturdy and magnificent 40D, it just does not feel right. There is no harmony.

Will I keep it? Yes. As far as fulfilling its function, the BG-E2N will do the work just fine. If, however, a third party manufacturer does eventually come out with a finer, higher quality product (and perhaps one with an AF-ON button in addition), I would not hesitate to make the switch.

Thank you for reading.

I don't mind at all. There are many things out there that can be objective. Some people will love it, some people will nitpik at it and to be honest, you can't make everyone happy. Of course, I can say that if there is a better quality one out there, I wouldn't mind "upgrading" it. Either way, in hopes of the wifi grip drops in price, I'm definately jumping on the boat for that.
