OK so here is the deal, I have been doing weddings for some time now and have made good money doing so. I have been doing all of them with an XT. Well the XT is going to die very soon, so I am torn over what to get. I liked the 30D I once had, and am sure that the 40D would be great. So I have about $3000 to spend I have some ok glass but could always use better stuff. I am torn between getting a 40D and an XTI+ Grips, or 2 XTI's +Grips and very good glass say sigma 28mm-300mm. The one thing I like about the XTI is the size, it is much easier for me to carry when doing a full day wedding. So I am asking for your help, Do I move on up to a 40D as primary or stick with the XTI? Is the 40D worth it over the XTI's?

I currently have the XT and today I spent some time at the local camera shop and played with the 40D and loved it. My favorite part was the view finder so big and bright compared to the XT. Now to be honest with you I have never really looked at the XTi to compare but sooo much better than the XT. I also love the feel of the 40D and I think it was lighter than my XT w/ grip. But having good glass is the most important part to have so if it would mean sacrificing glass then go with the XTi, otherwise I think the 40D would be the better choice.

If your XT isn't quite dead, I would get a 40D and some glass. I have both the 40D and an XTi. The improved high ISO capability is impressive. Not sure if the FPS would help for wedding stuff, but it couldn't hurt. The 40D is comfortable w/o the grip. It's balanced and feels solid.

I'd think the Highlight Tone Priority feature of the 40D would be EXTREMELY useful for a wedding photographer. 40D gets my vote. BUT, only if you can get some good glass with it. If you could stretch to a 40D, EF-S 17-55 IS, & 70-200 f/2.8, I'd think that would be an outstanding wedding combo.
