The OP will discover that if he sets his ISO at 1600 in the creative modes, the difference in estimated image capacity between creative/basic modes will be opposite what he previously observed.

I never thought about that until now - so I just checked. My 300D (in Av) says I have 628 shots left on this card at ISO 100 and 522 at ISO 800. That's a big difference! "Be seeing you."
