I followed this bird from one light pole to the next along a rural road in NE Kansas. EOS 30D and EF 100-400.

That's what I was wondering. We have the river here and I haven't seen or heard of any here. Maybe the eagle chase them away. Nice catch though. :)

Nice shot. It's migration time, I saw an osprey fly over the Grand Canyon, seemed out of place too. steve

haha, poor bird was trying to eat wondering why the heck there was a bothersome mamal was following him franticly making clicking noises.

I too was surprised to see it, but it is in my book of Kansas Raptors. It is apparenlty not uncommon as a migrational visitor.

On the same day, I saw a Bald Eagle, which is no big deal in Kansas between November and March, but there are only about 20 nesting pairs in the state, and the one I saw must have been part of one of those. It was too far away for a good shot, however.
