1st Paid Bridal Shower

Okay...so I have been asked to do a bridal shower at a fancy shmancy restaurant next weekend. The bride's parents are high society (he is a well-known surgeon) and I don't know anybody who will be at this event.

I was asked after one of the anesthesiologist's wives at my hospital saw a book of my wedding shots (from various weddings that I show to prospective customers).

Anyways, I am a little apprehensive. Any suggestions on what kind of shots/groupings I should try to get at an event like this? I understand there is going to about 65 guests!!!!!

This is my 1st paid bridal shower and 1st fancy one (that wasn't thrown in someone's home or backyard).

I'd focus on capturing the emotion and close ups of the people present at the event. Sorry if I don't have any more specifics, but I've never been to a bridal shower before!

* First of all get a second or maybe even third photographer.

* Cover it like a Red Carpet event. Who was there and what where they wearing.

Without knowing the building layout I can only suggest...

* Have one photographer standing at the entrance who works with the door person. As soon as they come in get a shot of the couples or person entering. Have good lighting for this shot don't make it cheesy. This is a posed shot.

* Stay out of peoples way and try not to be irritating but engaging, fun, and complimentary.

Get ready to have a very busy next year if you pull this off.

It might sound cheesy but my aunt (who works for a company that does marketing for Canon! Yeah no discount available, I asked:cry

She came to my shower with her Canon point and shoot and little printer...
She took a photo of me with each guest and the opened gift that the guest brought and then another nice posed one of me and the guest. This way instead of my maid of honor having to write down what each person gave me I had a picture! ( for the thank you cards gentlemen)

Then she printed them and gave me a little album as a keepsake! I thought it was super cute and a nice memory! Oh and I even sent a copy of the photo to the guest in their thank you card!

Take lots of shots of all the little details and the action. You will be great!

Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I have done a little research and it sounds like the bride's mother mainly wants candids and shots of all the guests. I think I'll be able to handle it

Good luck Maureen and congrats. There is a select few here that are willing to contribute but it seems that some have swelled heads and won't take the time to comment as you no the comments are lacking lately. Maybe you have to post for suggestions on another forum

Sounds like fun! I didn't realize that people sometimes hired photogs for such things, but I guess in high society ... pretend you're paparazzi and just shoot everything and everyone. Don't forget the detail shots of the food/cake, gifts, table settings ...
