My Aunt gave me a call last week and wanted me to come down and take some pictures of my Cousin, here are a few that I did. I really like the way the last one came out, not that its really a great shot (not smiling) But I like the way it shows him, more of a 'studio candid' then anything

Shot with the 20D, Sigma 70-200, and 550EX and 580EX in some home made soft boxes on the last shot, the first 2 are out doors with natural light

Enjoy

I LOVE that first one, SOOOOO cute!
#2 wouldn't be so bad if it was a different crop, I'd probably crop it off at the bottom of the pocket on her jeans, a tad over her head and on the left side of the frame, make it seem more intentional. Otherwise its a cute capture.
#3 is nicely lit and so on, just a shame she wasn't smiling and the crop seems a bit to one side, cutting part of her hair off and then having extra room on the left.
I do love that first one tho!

Personally, I like the first two the best. His expression in the third just looks too forced. Not your fault, of course! I get similar expressions from my son and he's 8 years.

Hes a Boy, btw, but your not the first (nor the last I suspect) to make that mistake. I tend to leave room to crop it down to an 8x10, hence the extra space on #'s 2 and 3

I kinda like #3 because it shows a little more of attitude, a little more of a representation of the child then a 'perfect portrait' I have others where he has more of a smile, but I just like this one for my own reasons.

Thanks for the kind words

-Johnny

Johny, they are all well done, though I like the first one the best also. Either your lens is too sharp, or they are a touch over sharpened. the hair is just too coarse. other than that, I like them

a combination of latter 2, slightly over sharpened and corse hair, resizing for the web wasn't the best thing for them, the prints look great, however.

Ooops. Sorry. He's got beautiful features, made me lean towards a girl altho he did look somewhat boyish in #3, the other two tho had me think girl for whatever reason. LOL Don't worry, I've had people comment that my youngest looks like a girl (the long hair I'd guess), he can be dressed all in blue and people still say "what a pretty girl". LOL :p
I see what you mean, I tend to do that too altho I've started to tilt down a bit more to include more of the body instead of empty space overhead, that way it still looks ok as a 4x6's as well, my family is nuts on 4x6's - or I should say my MIL is. LOL
I think character shots are hard for others to see since we don't know the subject ourselves, but that's fine - if its shows who he is right now, you've done well!
