40D as second body to MKIIN Advice please

18 months ago I upgraded from a 10D to a 1DMKIIN and it was the best thing I did. If you look at some of my other threads you will see nearly all my photography is motorsport and aviation related. I still have the 10D but prefer to change lens all the while and it never gets used, but I just wish I had a second body that was not so slow in operation.
I don't really want to spend several £1000 pound's on a MKIII when to me it still has focus issues so do you think a 40D would be a good buy? I have read very few negative posts on it and like the few I have handled. My only reservation would be the lack of focus points compared to my MKIIN as I vary there use a lot.
Your thought would be most welcome.
