Well, I'm seriously disappointed now. I was out shooting today with my 40D and using the 70-200 f2.8L IS and the EF-S 10-22mm and my camera locked up 8 or 10 times I think within an hour of shooting. It did it with both lenses and removing and replacing the batteries didn't help.

I bought the camera through JR.com, had dealt with them years ago and had been pleased. I'm still within the 30 day dealer return period, so I'll be calling tomorrow to get an RMA. I wonder how long it will take them to get me a new camera???

If I can get an RMA tomorrow I'll ship it overnight.

Damn, I'm bummed out. This is the most money I've ever spent on a body. I know that every factory turns out a lemon from time to time, but I'm feeling especially ticked at Canon right now.

When I look back at my 350D, I've NEVER had one lick of trouble and I'm sure I'm close to 15K clicks. I've had it around the world, it's been dropped once, broke the filter, but the camera still ran fine.

Well, I guess enough of the WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!! :(

From what I'm reading, I'm not the only one who's had this problem.

What's up with Canon's Q/C?

Right now, I'm wishing I bought the 400D instead, that was my original plan, to get the XTI and another L series lens.

I think it's time to open up a nice bottle of wine and think about something other than photograpy.

Michael

check your memory card, it may be causing the problems

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Yeah, I thought of that, I tried it with SanDisk Ultra II 4GB and a Kingston 1GB, same problem would occur after a few shots.

:-(

Remove both batteries and wait a minute. Now...look down into the memory card slot with a flashlight and make sure all the pins are straight. Put batteries back in and try it out. Worth a shot. :)

Sorry to hear about the problems. I image with a new model release the bugs are worked out in the field as well.

Have you been changing lenses a lot? Did you try cleaning the lens contacts on both the camera body and the lens? Be careful not to introduce dust into the body cavity.

If your within the exchange period I would exchange it. ERR99 can be something simple but it can also be something more. My 350 was a freaking nightmare. It was my second Canon body but the first that exhibited ERR99. It took months and several trips back to Canon to finally resolve all the issues. I had a total of four ERR99 causing problems. If my new 40D gets one, it's headed back without second thought.

I've changed out between 3 lenses in two weeks, and I'm always very careful. The contacts are clean, the pins look straight, I think I got a lemon, that's the long and short of it. I'm very disappointed, but that's life in the big city sometimes.

I'll be calling JR.com first thing tomorrow and am hopeful that there will be no b.s. in getting an RMA. I've kept everything, all wrapping, manuals, etc., so I can't see why there would be a problem. I'm wondering how long it will be before they will ship me out a new and hopefully good body.

If I get a second one that's bad, I'll ask for my money back and return to my original plan of getting an XTI and more L glass.

I'll keep the group posted.

I have to give JR.com props. They gave me an RA#, apologized for my inconvenience, and will be shipping me a new body via overnight once they process my return.

In fact, the customer service rep. called me at home and asked me to email her a tracking number so she could expidite my return. She also indicated that if I have any issues with the replacement body, I can get my money back no problem, no restocking fee, etc.

I must say that I'm impressed with JR.com. I haven't bought anything from them in probably over 10 years, I remembered that they were good, but hadn't thought to use them until I started my quest for a 40D.

I would say that one could buy with confidence from them. My replacement 40D should arrive on Thursday. I'll keep the group posted.

-Michael

Customer service like that is about the best advertising money can’t buy. I have used them before and thought I never had to return anything, they always processed the order very quickly.
