I just checked their site again. As of today, they recommend original Eclipse for the 5D and Eclipse 2 for the 400D, 40D and 1D mk. III.

No doubt they have their reasons, but it's sorta strange from where I sit...

That's strange as the E2 is specially for tin oxide coatings, which I believe is the 5D..

They seem to mention the 5D specifically on the guarantee page.

Not that this is much use to me as im in the UK.

Yep. They originally recommended E2 for the 5D and then changed their tune. Shrug. Who knows?

Great, I think I will order one as I have some dust specks on my 5D which dont seem to be removed by the blower.

What exactly did you do with this lenspen, ive never used one before, did you use the brush end or the other end, it appears it has some sort of rubber end in some cleaning fluid

If you could let me know exactly how you used it, that would be a great help ;)

Okay...
Note: Mine was the SensorKlear version, which retails at £14.99 but it looks identical to the one at 7dayshop. However having looked today there is one similar to yours for less:
Jessops Lenspen £8.99:

Mine £14.99:

Yours:
http://www.7dayshop.com …s/products/prod_27871.jpg (external link)

As you can see, the photo of 'yours' looks more like 'mine' than the cheaper jessops lenspen, but the description of 'yours' doesn't mention a sensor. So i'd fork out the £15 for the proper Sensorklear one i have. Especially if it was a 5D! Also i'm not sure about the 5D's sensor, isn't there a rumour going around about a coating that can come off?

Anyway, i take no responsibility for this if you decide to use it. This method is ONLY for the 350D/RebelXT and the Jessops Lenspen SensorKlear retailing at £14.99.

Now with all blame on me deftly avoided, here is the method...
You will Need:

  • A normal vacuum cleaner with a hose and no fitting on it.
  • Preferably a Rocket Blower or normal blower
  • A Lenspen Sensorklean
  • A flat sheet of white A4 with NO crumples.
  • A lint free cloth or plastic bag (either works)
  • A tripod
  • A camera with a messy sensor
  • Nerves of steel and a full battery
How i did it:

  1. Tripod up, camera mounted and pointing directly downwards.
  2. Rocket Blower, Sensorklear pen and lint free cloth placed on a clean surface.
  3. Vacuum cleaner plugged in and sitting beside tripod.
  4. Sensor cleaning mode ON on camera.
  5. Blow with Rocket Blower being careful not to put tip closer than 1 inch away from sensor. Hold Vacuum hose in other hand and suck away any dislodged by holding it about 2 inches from camera opening.
  6. Now, Take the cap off the Sensorklear pen and dab it on the lint free cloth 3 times.
  7. The put it lightly on the centre of you sensor and move it in an oblong spiral pattern around your sensor until you come to the edge. Then go around the edge, making sure one of the three tips of the sensorklear goes into the corner. Don't lean heavily, or scrub at it, just a continuous glide.
  8. Remove sensorklear pen and replace lid.
  9. Switch off camera to close shutter and retract mirror.
  10. Breath a sigh of relief.
  11. Take a photo of your A4 paper on +2 exposure compensation and check it on your PC for specs.
  12. Repeat if neccessary.
Thats all i did.

It works brilliantly.

Ah so thats how you use the other end of that pen, ok thanks for taking the time to type all that.

I will of course check to see if this can be used with a 5D.

Sounds like a lot of work - last night I had to blow my sensor off three times with short small "squirts" from compressed gas.;)

One spot seemed to move around a few times, but on the last attempt, it disappeared.

Oh, almost forgot, I removed the dust from the viewfinder at the same time.

When did voluptuous become voluminous?

Yes I gave my 5D a complete overhaul today, I used the rocketblower on the focus screen, mirror & then the CCD, I managed to shift quite a few specs that show up @ f/22, but not every single one, it seems impossible to ever get it 100% clean, but then I guess that would be pointless as give it a week or two & the dust would be back anyway.

The lenspen looks a good idea though, I just need to make sure its 5D compatible, with the price of this camera I cant afford to take ANY chances.

Nope, it was a lot of typing :)

it takes 5 mins tops, 2 mins for assembling the bits and 2 to do it and 1 to download images to PC.
