bannedPermanent ban

Each one controls reduction for the corresponding component of sensor noise.
To see the difference between luminance and chrominance noise, take a look here:

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

I've owned my 40D for 2 days now. Slight hijack, but hey.......Noise? What noise? (ISO 3200) Awesome.

'Posted this on an Aussie forum just a few minutes ago...............

'Just chucked dinner in the m'wave to defrost, turned around, saw the fruit bowl, and thought hmmmm...........*a test for the new toy*

Anyone who knows my shakey hands and I, will know how much I'm gonna love never visiting ISO100 again.

The only PP done was to adjust the WB to suit the low voltage downlights we have in the house, and to resize for here. Nothing else.

I would have wiped the kitchen bench first, but I never thought I'd be posting the test result.:o

Great link, Hermeto; I found it very helpful and had been wondering pretty much the same thing as the OP.

Hermeto,
Thanks for the link....seems this noise issue can be a liitle complicated.
No,I' not complaining about the 40D..I just wanted to get some understanding about the subject,,Your link has given me a good insight .....
I took the 40D out last night ,set the asa to 1600,processed a few images and was amazed at the clarity, and sharpness. after I processed them in DPP.
This is an upgrade from my XT,and I'm extremely happy with the overall quality ,the IQ,and most of all the viewfinder.
Thanks again,

Mike
