Does someone know how to set the f-stop to 1.8 or do i need to buy another lens?Its for my class and im a noob.. please help

Which lens are you trying to do this with? I'm assuming that it's one of the generic kit zooms sold with the entry level film cameras. In that case, the answer is no.

On your lens it probably says something like f3.5-f5.6. Those are the widest apertures available on that particular lens. At the widest zoom (28mm) it's at f3.5 , and zoomed out to 90mm the widest aperture available jumps up to f5.6. If your class assignments require you to shoot at f1.8, then you need something like the Canon 50mm f 1.8 , which goes for about $70.

Thank You for all your help he's got me taking less depth of field pics right now he used Duane Micheals as an example.Your help was much appreiciated.
