This is just to why someone purchased or would purchase the camera being polled.

In my case, my previous camera a P&S Canon A85 went swimming, and although I wanted a DSLR to go with my film SLR, I didn't really want to bite off all that money in one shot, at the time, so I got the S3IS, instead. It turned out to be a lemon, but when I took it back, there were not stocking them anymore, and wouldn't give me a refund, only store credit. I would've liked to have the XTi, but the only choices were the Nikon D40 and XT, so the XT won out. Good camera. Not what I wanted, but cannot complain at all. Will most likely choose to upgrade much sooner than would be needed, but still reluctant to get of the XT, so I plan to keep it as my backup/crappier location camera.

Shouldn't people saying "Price only" not check anything else?
Long ago I bought the original Rebel because it was cheaper than anything else out there. That's what got me into Canon, and then I built up from there. Otherwise I might be shooting Nikon right now.

I got mine because the size felt good in my hand and because of the price. The IQ was rated to be pretty good so I felt I was getting a good deal. I used it for a few months and now use a 30D. I got the 30 because it was a decent priced used. The plan was to keep the XTi for a second body w/the a wider angle on it.........the wife is starting to take pictures so now the XTi may be lost to her.

I agree that "price only" would exclude any other choices from consideration.

Price was a significant factor in my camera selection, but so were features and size/weight. I've added an XTi to my gear list yesterday. The XXD series were not enough of an advancement to sway me to spend more money. I'm familiar enough with the XT/XTi apeture control in manual to not weight the XXD's rear wheel too high.

If I have rear wheel withdrawal, I'll shoot away with my Elan IIe.

I bought the XT because it was cheap and easy to use. I've had it for just over a year, and now I'm itching to upgrade to the 40D, and my wife can have the rebel.

I started with a used Canon AV-1 over twenty years ago, when i wanted to get a new film camera i looked at mostly canon cameras. I figured i liked what i had and they seemed to be one of the better brands to buy, so i purchased a rebel 2000 film camera.

A few years later when i wanted a "high end" (to me anyway) digital camera i still felt canon was still one of the better brands to buy and the added benefit would be that i could use my lenses from the rebel 2000.

I purchased the cheapest of the "high end" canon digitals which at the time was still almost $1000, thats alot of money for a camera, especially for somebody who just enjoys taking pictures and will most likely never make any money doing it.
