How do you lock the focus when you are using AI Servo? Is it one of the CF's?

Remap the buttons through CFn's to make it so the shutter button only meters and locks exposure. Then just let go of whatever button youre using to activate AF.

Other than that, locking focus in AI servo runs counter to the whole idea of using AI servo..

Thanks, I'll look into that. I use it for macro shots and I wish I could reframe sometimes

Yeah on the 40D you can map AF to the "AF-ON" button so that pressing the shutter doesnt make the AF try to work. On the 30D you have to map it to the AE-Lock button that looks like a big star ( * )

AF with macro is often a frustrating combination. I usually shoot macros in manual focus.

I used to, but AI Servo all the way for me now. Ocassional Manual. I got tired of setting the manual focus only to move slightly and throw it off. I have way more keepers now.
Locking the focus and recomposing with such narrow DOF, can be tricky. Which would make this whole thread useless. But I do wish I could lock it on occassion
