What are you kidding, the 5D is a quantum leap in IQ from the 20D, and the 20D is not to shabby. If you can afford it get it no matter what you like to shoot. You will not be disappointed. Hang a 16-35 on it whether it be a I or II version, or you can even still find the 17-35 L, or if you want to go really crazy get the 14 mm f/2.8 and really go crazy wide.

I mostly do landscapes, a lot of outdoor stuff. I do a lot of aerial photography. I use a 70-200 on the 20d for that. Occasionaly I do some outdoor family/engagement type pictures. I find that I take very few indoor shots. Thanks for all the input.

that means you'll need a longer lens for your 5d or else you might want to consider keeping the 20d.

i went from the 20d to the 5d.

Keep the 20D and get the 5D for your wide angle shooting.

I love my 5D and the IQ is incredible, but I would probally go EF-S 10-22, keep the 28-70 and add a 70/200L and maybe a 40D and grip for not much more than a bare 5D, which will be superceeded next year.

Why not simply drop down to the 10-22 Canon lens. On the 20D you will get the equivalent of 16mm at low end and all the wide angle you could want. Certainly attractive economically.

I've had a 10D since July 2003. Never saw a reason to upgrade to a 20D ... not even a 30D for that matter. This past July I upgraded to a 5D. The 5D and 10D (likely 20D as well) are in completely different leagues, in my opinion.

TRUE wide angle! Even using my 17-40 on the 10D never seemed like wide angle ... just wider than anything else I had. Now it can be used for what it is.
A while before getting the 5D I also bought a 24-70 L. Nice lense on my 10D but 24mm isn't wide on the 10D. It's an even better lens and WIDE on the 5D.

I really don't know how to describe the difference and in fact consider that I am still learning how to use the 5D but when I shoot the same shot with both cameras ... there are noticable differences.

The one big difference I do notice is losing that "crop factor". While I get the feeling I've lost zoom, in reality, I could crop a 5D photo to do what my 10D does, or pretty close yet with better quality.

You should consider a Sigma 12-24 on a 5D. It doesn't get much wider than that. Some users describe the 12-24 as one of those lenses that come in "good" and "bad" units. I have one that I use primarily on 1.6 crop digital cameras, so I can't tell you how it works on a full frame. I have used it on a film camera, and the prints look good. The developer I use thought the shots were taken with a fisheye. Good luck!

I recently got a 5D to go along with my 20D. The IQ of the 5D is truly amazing.

I already had a 24-70 2.8L and 70-200 2.8L IS, and my next glass will be long glass. 24mm on a full frame is wide.

Since I got the 5D the 20D has seen no use, but I expect it will get used when I have need to shoot very long. 200mm on a full frame is really short compared to on a 1.6 crop. I expect that would be your only complaint. Even then, the improved IQ makes it tough to complain. Keeping the 20D and getting the 5D might be good to start with. Then see if you need to keep the 20D and if you want any wider lenses.

@stuartf287
I have tested the sigma 12-24mm on the 5D, it's a WOW lens, you are inside the picture

Two bodies left, some "soso" lenses, and still a lot of gear.....

I'm also considering upgrading from a 20D to a 5D because sometimes I'm frustrated with the crop factor. Sometimes I can't go wide enough. However, I have read up on full-frame sensors and their problems with vignetting.

I'm wondering if 5D owners have run into vignetting problems. If so, are there some lenses the problem is better or worse on?

Jumping in here with a question -- I had a 20 D and bought my husband a 5D for his birthday. It's his first digital. Before he was using film and had three EOS bodies. We're having trouble getting the exposure right. I'm just learning about the RAW image processing so that may be part of the problem, but even though the playback on the 5D looks great, when we download the images most of his outside pictures are overexposed. He's stopped down but it's still off a bit. Haven't tried the gray card yet.
Anyone else had this problem?
