possible lighting conditon? Lack of light?
are you using flash that would hold it up.

Burst rate for 40D is 6.5 frames per second. There are no cameras that can attain 14 fps that I am aware of. What is the 14 that you refer to?

I think he means continuous shots? if so I think he means 14 raw shots before the buffer fills, but I could be wrong. My guess is because the OP is shooting raw+m, have you tried just raw?

Turn off the noise reduction features for long exposure and high ISO in the custom functions menu.

I'm with nqjudo (seems i've seen this same question asked in another forum, and this was the fix).

burst rate and burst length are two different things. rate is a speed, so 6.5fps, burst length is a duration, which should be about 20 raw or much less raw+jpg. with iso noise reduction on, length goes down even more.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.
