Hello, when using remote live view shooting on my PC with the 40D, the image is pretty grainy. I'm shooting at iso 100. Is this normal?

At least I don't think it does. Did you try taking it back to the store and testing it against another 40D? ~Spaceships Don't Come Equipped With Rear View Mirrors~

Try added EV to your initial exposure to allow more light to each pixel.

You may be seeing noise introduced by the postprocessing required to create the live image that would otherwise be underexposed. (Like "autoprocessing" an underexposed RAW looks "properly exposed" but noisy) In prints, there's not much more noise from ISO400 than ISO100 these days - not like the old film days
